avevo mai sentito parlare delle Antenne della Arno Elettronica fino a quando il mio caro amico Alan
(G7TEA) non me le ha fatte notare, così ho deciso di provarle.
In
precedenza usavo una G5RV. Devo dire che avrei voluto installare dei dipoli full
size, ma purtroppo non ho lo spazio sufficiente per antenne così grandi.
Ho
ordinato a Martin Lynch & Sons una Cobra per i 20 metri e una Venus per gli
80 metri.
Le
antenne sono arrivate due giorni dopo bene imballate ed ottimamente costruite.
In
attesa che Alan mi aiutasse ad installare le antenne, ho messo la Venus80 in
camera appoggiata al muro.
Ho
ascoltato un G4… di Hertfordshire in 80 metri (non menziono il suo nominativo
per intero per evitargli l’imbarazzo). Ho provato a chiamarlo e lui mi ha
riposto subito, ho subito pensato: funziona!!
Gli
ho detto con quale antenna stavo trasmettendo e non appena ho menzionato la
parola “Venus” mi ha risposto che ero sotto di 2 punti S. Ma quello che NON gli
ho detto è che l’antenna era in camera.
Una
settimana dopo, Alan mi ha installato entrambe le antenne più libere possibile
da ostacoli.
Personalmente
utilizzo un Icom 718 con i suoi 100W.
Abbiamo
fatto delle comparazioni tra la mia postazione e quella di Alan che si trova a
circa 300 metri di distanza da casa mia, lui con una G5RV e io con la Venus80.
Dopo
una serie di collegamenti, annotando i vari risultati, la Venus 80 è risultata
molto più performante rispetto alla G5RV usata da Alan.
Ho
ascoltato stazioni (alcune delle quali neppure ricevute con la G5RV di Alan) con
rapporti migliori anche di 3 punti S.
Non
abbiamo un dipolo full-size per fare ulteriori confronti, ma questa antenna funziona meglio della G5RV di Alan. Anche il rumore captato dalla
Venus è più
basso di quello presente sulla G5RV.
Precedentemente,
durante il giorno, in 80 metri non riuscivo in alcun modo ad usare la mia
vecchia antenna, adesso con la Venus80 riesco a fare anche collegamenti diurni.
La considero ottima e penso che valga i soldi che ho speso.
Questa
è la mia opinione, in ogni caso reputo la Venus80 nettamente migliore della mia
vecchia G5RV.
Non
posso dire molto per quel che riguarda la Cobra20.
In
questo periodo la banda dei 20 metri non è molto aperta ma ci sono sempre
alcune stazioni, per quelle poche che ho ascoltato la Cobra è buona quanto la G5RV
e a volte è migliore. Trascorro la maggior parte del mio tempo in 80 metri,
quindi non posso ancora dare un giudizio perché le prove sono state poche.
Ho
sentito dire da alcune persone che è il cavo che irradia, no, non sulle mie
antenne.
Vedo
che funzionano bene e sono una vera manna paragonate ad una G5RV.
Da
dire che non ho notato nessun problema di TVI
Precedentemente
avevo problemi di TVI ma ora non più.
Una
difficoltà che ho avuto è stata quella delle staffe. I fissaggi erano troppo
piccoli per un palo da 2 pollici. Ho dovuto acquistare un palo più piccolo.
Adesso
sto risparmiando per comprarmi anche una Cobra per i 40 metri !!

I
had not heard of the Arno Elettronica Antennas until a good friend of mine, Alan (G7TEA) drew
my attention to them. So I
took a chance on buying them and ordered an Antenna for the 20 metre band
(Cobra 20) and another for the 80 metre band (Venus 80) from Martin Lynch &
Sons. I had a G5RV installed
at the time, and although I would have liked a full-size dipole, I don’t have
enough space for something that big.
The antennas arrived two days later, nicely packed and well made.
While waiting for Alan to help me to put up the antennas I lodged the
Venus 80 in my bedroom between the floor and the ceiling, tilted 15 degrees from
vertical. There was a G4 station in
Hertfordshire on the 80-metre band (I won’t give the full call to save him the
blushes) who immediately returned to my call. I thought “Well, at least it’s working”.
I told him what antenna I was using and as soon as I mentioned the
antennas from arno elettronica he
said I was 2 S-points down. But
what I did NOT tell him was that the antenna was in my bedroom.
A
week later Alan (G7TEA) put both antennas up for me, as free as we could get
them. Using my ICOM 718
at 100 watts, we compared the performance of my Venus 80 with Alan’s half size
G5RV about 300 metres away. We
took note of everything. I found the Venus 80 to be a much better than Alan’s
G5RV and was able to hear stations that he could not, and with far less noise.
I am now able to work 80 metres all through the day using the Venus 80,
which I have not been able to do with my half-size G5RV - it really is very good
indeed and well worth the money.
I
had heard that there were problems with radiation from the coax feeder with
these antennas, but I have had no problems at all and it radiates a clean signal
without causing TV interference, which I did get with the G5RV.
One problem I did have was with the clamps - I found them to be too small
for a 2-inch diameter pole and had to buy another pole of smaller diameter.
I
spend much of my time on 80 metres and with poor band conditions on 20m I cannot
say much about my Cobra 20, other than from what I have heard so far it is as at
least as good as my G5RV and sometimes better.
You can bet that I’m now saving up for a Cobra 40 antenna! I rate these antennas at 9/10 - many thanks to Arno for the
design of these excellent antennas and to Martin Lynch for the fast delivery.
