CHALLENGER III

RANGER 811

TUNERS

CHALLENGER III

The Challenger III uses a Russian GS35 ceramic triode valve.

This is a very rugged valve, which is capable of producing high power for long operating periods and will give you a cool, big signal.

There is a massive 2.2kVA toroidal transformer producing 3600V after the voltage doubler board. Cooling is forced air from a Papst flatpack blower located just under the transformer.

The Challenger III features a new Triode board specially designed by G3SEK, which provides protection for grid over-current, plate over-current, over-drive and internal valve flash-over. It also provides soft-start, 3 minute warm up timer, sequenced relays and high speed switching relay.

The Challenger will cover all the HF bands, 10 – 160m with separate band switch positions for the WARC bands.

The Tune and Load capacitors are a large double module unique to Linear Amp UK with wide spacing to prevent flash-over.

Altogether, a real DX amplifier.

RANGER 811H

The Ranger 811H uses four vertically-mounted 811A valves to produce 800W on the Amateur HF bands.

As with all our models, the Ranger has a toroidal transformer providing the power into a voltage doubler board. The voltage doubler is used in preference to a bridge rectifier as it keeps the AC volts down. With the four  811A valves in parallel the Ranger produces 800W CW and 400W RTTY.

Each band has its own tuned I/P and the O/P Pi network has a nine-position bandswitch for better tuning. To aid tuning even more there are 6:1 reduction drives on the tune and load capacitors.

These capacitors are a double module exclusive to Linear Amp UK Ltd.

The valves are cooled by a 120mm, low noise, Papst fan which gives excellent cooling but is so quiet you will hardly know it is running.

Front panel features include two backlit, flush-mounted meters which show plate current and grid current. The grid current meter also doubles as a relative RF power O/P meter, selectable on the front panel. Fully adjustable ALC is also controlled from the front panel.

Newly upgraded control board, flash-over protection and circuit breaker instead of fuse on back panel are all recently added features.

DISCOVERY - Amplificatori VHF e UHF

The Discovery amplifiers all use either a Russian GS31 ceramic triode valve (Standard) or GS35 (High power).

These are very rugged valves which will operate for long periods at an output of up to 1200W GS31) or 1500W (GS35). The RF compartment is made from aluminium which has been alochrome finished to give excellent conductivity.

A heavy duty toroidal transformer and voltage doubler board produce 2800V. Cooling the valve is forced air from a powerful centrifugal fan.

The Discovery features a Triode board designed by G3SEK which incorporates soft start and a 3 min startup timer. There is also protection for Plate over-current, Grid over-current, Over-drive and Internal valve flash-over. There is also sequenced relays and high speed switching relay.

The new Balanced Supertuner has been designed for maximum efficiency and optimum Q on each band. The circuit uses silver-plated coils and wide spaced capacitors which have been fitted with Jackson slow motion drives for silk-smooth tuning.

The Supertuner will handle any amplifier with an output power of up to 1200W RMS CW.

The circuit is a link-coupled series circuit on 10 – 20m and a relay-switched parallel circuit on the             30 – 160m  bands.

You can feed an LF aerial on the 30 – 160m terminals and feed an HF aerial on the 10 – 20m terminals  and experience the ease of tuning with this new ATU and the speed that you can change bands.

The Balanced Supertuner is available in two models with or without VSWR / Pwr meter.

A 12V DC supply is required to operate the relays and also illuminate the meter (if fitted).
